un extrait :
The new rules have been adopted in the name of safety, a reaction to the widely held view that today's radical sidecut skis can make the sport more dangerous at the highest levels. There is little argument that shorter, shapelier skis have made skiing easier for recreational skiers. But incidents on the World Cup circuit -- including a horrific crash last season at Val d'Isere that left Swiss downhiller Silvano Beltrametti paralyzed -- have renewed the call for further regulation of ski lengths and shapes, along with standheight and boot sole thickness.
Once competitors have had time to adapt and manufacturers time to retool, the new limits on ski length and turning radius will take effect. Here are the 2003-04 rules, with current limits in parentheses where applicable:
Men's downhill skis: minimum radius (MR), 45 meters (40m); minimum length (ML), 215 cm.
Women's downhill: MR, 45m (40m); ML, 210 cm.
Men's super G: MR, 33m (33m); ML, 205 cm.
Women's super G: MR, 33m (33m); ML, 200 cm.
Men's giant slalom: MR, 21m (21m); 185 cm.
Women's giant slalom: MR, 21m (21m); 180 cm.
Men's slalom: MR, none (none); ML, 165 cm (155 cm).
Women's slalom: MR, none (none); ML, 155 cm (150 cm).
Children 1 (J IV, 11-12): MR, 14m (14m); ML, 130 cm.
Children 2 (J III, 13-14): MR, 17m (17m); ML, 130 cm.
