Voilà mes remarques en anglais sur la video:
CLICK: CHRIS IS BACK
Hello Tom, this is my 2 cents analysis of this video of Chris’s free skiing !
I will not write about the good...too long to do so So :
1/ position of Chris when skis are flat in transition is too much in the back seat : there is not enough ankle flexion, meaning going forward with hips has been done too late and active ankle flexion is not there. The why is a little bit complex :
1a/ in the video, most of the time, pressure on skis is too long with slalom skis, one reason is that lower/upper body separation is done too late (timing), the consequence is going forward exiting the turn is too late too (timing)
1b/ we don’t see skiing from foot to foot: we see 2 feet deployment and entering the turn in the middle of both skis, not in the tip of the external ski as it should be. Entering in the new turn should be done with external quadriceps vertical: this is a rule of thumb.
See Shiffrin, for exercice at 0:30 in youtube.com
1c/ Chris is pushing his feet forward in transition. Don't do that. Instead go forward with your center of mass in transition.
2/ these are slalom skis. After the fall line shoulders should be always levelled (horizontal) : this is a rule of thumb too ,
3/ not enough edge angle at the exit of the turn before forward movement. Chris can easily improve here. This can help solving 1a/
Main point is 1/.
My 2 cents, since I am not a pro and Chris is now becoming a master
Nota1: I prefer the exercice of Shiffrin compared to the robocop one. Shiffrin shows the orientation of internal hip with the outweighted ski pointing down.
Nota2: weighted release drill shown here is unorthodox. It is opposite of what Chris should improve (1b)
Nota3: rebound, pivot and weight transfer :https://youtu.be/3IIYaUbtaEA?t=169
