I've been skiing in and from Thollon for 20 years. Despite its size, its a super little ski area and friendly little village. Its the place to go if you want to escape the pretentious, chic, 'places-to-be-seen' ski areas that are now all to common. It has no airs and graces, apart from that afforded by the most amazing and spectacular lake views in the Alps. Great for those photos to really impress your non-skiing friends. Its also the place to go with a young family who have never skied before. Its also a very 'French locals' ski area - they arrive from miles around each day. Bar St Nicolas is the best place to eat and drink. Restaurant Bon Sejour is nice, very traditional Savoie atmosphere. Highly recommended, especially as a base to ski from - Villars and Verbier in Switzerland is an hour drive, Chamonix an hour and a half, and best of all, you can access the Portes Du Soleil in half an hour.
